I was very excited today to learn about ScratchJr or Scratch Junior - inspired by the popular Scratch programming language. ScratchJr is created specifically for children aged 5-7 so that they can make their own interactive stories and games. ScratchJr will be available later in the year (2014). Here are the plus points:

- There is currently a distinct lack of coding resources for children in KS1. This will go a long way to plugging that gap with a simpler interface for younger children.
- There will be both ipad and android versions and they will be free! In my opinion it's a great decision to create apps for both iOS and android. It is a real step forward to see a developer being inclusive rather than throwing their eggs in one basket.
- The introduction of ScratchJr will mean that the Scratch language can be taught as a progression throughout the Primary School. It also means that schools have a fantastic free resource with which to teach the new Computing Curriculum.
