March 3-9 is when the Hour of Code comes to the UK. After its success in persuading people from all walks of life to try coding for an hour in the USA, the hour of code is now making its way to our shores. The website you need for all info and resources is uk.code.org
The website gives you access to many free coding resources that can be used in the classroom including an Angry Birds style game, Tynker and Light-Bot. Why not use this as an opportunity for teachers in your school to introduce coding to their classes by spending an hour during that week in March exploring the resources that are on offer? Many of the activities are self guided so need little or no input to get them started.
The Hour of Code is just one example where resources are catching up with the new Curriculum. There is still a way to go until we can feel satisfied that we can comfortably resource the new Programme of Study but this is certainly a step in the right direction.
