The Learnpads have now been available for pupils to use for a number of weeks so I thought I'd give an update on how things are going.
It has become more obvious as the weeks have gone by that the Learnpads are being used more and more. The children find them intuitive to use and there have been no complaints as regards to performance issues. Here are the things that they have been used for so far:
Accessing Espresso Activities
Oxford Owl eBooks for early morning work and guided reading
Using PicCollage to inspire some creative writing
Taking photos of events and printing them directly from the tablets
Creating a profile for topic work with personalised links and activities
Research using web browser
Interactive displays using QR Codes
A quiz (Letterboxing style)
They are also used a lot at homework club
We have only had a couple of issues. One of the chargers broke and also one of the touchscreens stopped working. However, when I contacted Learnpad about this they were very quick to respond and sort out the issues so I have no problems there.
It is true to say that pupils are generally consuming content rather than creating it. However, I believe the balance will change over time as everyone becomes more confident at using them.
